My education was focused on the earth sciences (geophysics, carbonate geology) and computer science (data analytics); and previous work experience was geared toward data science and plug-in development for the energy industry. Technical skills: Python (10 years) and R (4 years), with 2 years' experience building data science products using Hadoop and its associated dongles (especially Spark). Stephanie co-owns a Seattle tech startup, Bionomial, which is focused on an image compression product called Basis. Basis reduces download sizes, improves performance of apps, and helps cross platform tech be performant. Before that she did consulting in the VR space, graphics programming, and low level optimization work in the games and tech industries.
Stephanie is passionate about building a good, solid platform that allows others' skills to shine. Poor performance can really block a technology from reaching its full potential, and it is a constant struggle. To kick off the talk, Stephanie will review emerging technology products, how they're developed over time and common bumps in the road. She'll discuss struggles with cross platform. Then, she'll do a deep-dive into how image compression has evolved within these products, and the work she is doing to lay a more solid foundation for emerging technologies.
